Spring renewal was at the heart of Széchenyi István University’s event entitled “The Rhythm of Nature”, where international students presented traditions associated with the season in their home countries through music and melodies. The programme offered opportunities both for learning and for fostering connections between different cultures.
The Job Fair of Széchenyi István University offers networking opportunities for students, graduates, career starters and skilled young professionals with labour market stakeholders. At the event held on 14 April, major employers of the region offered approximately 150 job and internship positions to young people, who also received useful advice on CV writing and successful job interview techniques.
The cooperation between Széchenyi István University and ETO FC Győr spans numerous fields, from sports health research through the application of innovative technologies to educational development. A new element of the partnership may be the joint establishment of an English-medium primary and secondary school, which could serve the education of the children of visiting professors and foreign footballers alike.
Guest professors, staff members and athletes affiliated with partner teams will soon be able to take possession of the Famulus Apartment House, newly developed by Széchenyi István University. The modern, fully furnished residential units offer high-quality accommodation under favourable conditions, thereby contributing to the strengthening of the institution’s international appeal.
A lecturer from the Deák Ferenc Faculty of Law and Political Sciences of Széchenyi István University, Lieutenant Colonel Dr László Vikman, recently took part in the preparation of NATO’s largest cybersecurity exercise, Locked Shields. The expert represented Hungary at the event held in South Korea.
T he Győr International Frigyes Hidas Wind Orchestra Conducting Course was held for the tenth time at Széchenyi István University between 20 and 24 March. The professional programme, attracting international participants as well, supported the development of conductors through orchestral rehearsals and theoretical lectures, and was crowned by a closing concert.
With the support of the Ministry of Energy, Széchenyi István University is implementing a comprehensive programme centred on the development of an artificial intelligence-based freight optimisation system aimed at reducing carbon emissions in transport. The testing of the project’s results is carried out in industrial partnerships – including with major logistics companies – while the newly established laboratories and equipment at the institution provide the research and testing background.
The MedTech Health Technology Campus of Széchenyi István University supports education, research, and even elderly care in the region, and the institution places considerable emphasis on its development. Currently, investments in the second phase are already underway.
Széchenyi István University received outstanding recognition at the University of the Year Gala, held at the Gödöllő Palace on 30 March. At the event it was announced that the institution in Győr had won the Student-Friendly University of the Year award.
Széchenyi István University has recently inaugurated an infrastructure development at the Zalaegerszeg Innovation Park. More than thirty students from Széchenyi István University took part in an international short-term study programme, during which they became acquainted with the most advanced machining technologies at GROB-WERKE GmbH & Co. KG, often referred to as the “Rolls-Royce of machine tools”. In addition to professional development, the study trip to Germany – supported by the Pannonia Scholarship Programme – also had a community-building impact. As a result, the University’s Audi Hungaria Faculty of Engineering plans to continue the programme.
The National Research, Development and Innovation Office recently delivered a series of informative presentations for lecturers and researchers at Széchenyi István University on the European Union’s Horizon Europe calls. The aim of the Hungarian Diaspora Scholarship is to enable members of the Hungarian diaspora living around the world to strengthen their personal connection to their ancestral homeland through higher education studies. Thanks to this opportunity, Ivan Manuel Bano from Colombia—whose ancestors originated from Hungary—is now studying at Széchenyi István University.
Széchenyi István University is establishing an automated store and an associated training warehouse at the Albert Kázmér Faculty in Mosonmagyaróvár. The robot-operated container store has already arrived at the site. By offering a new type of shopping experience, the development will help strengthen domestic digital short supply chains, while also supporting university education with new practical opportunities.
The opening event of the CASA.17 international architectural student design competition was recently hosted by Széchenyi István University. The initiative brings together around 260 students and 35 instructors from seven Hungarian and Romanian institutions. Its aim is to give young participants the opportunity to test their skills in a real-life context beyond traditional classroom assignments, while jointly reflecting on the future of the built environment.

After twenty-eight years, the Hungarian women’s national basketball team is once again competing for a place at the World Championship, taking part in the qualification tournament in Istanbul between 11 and 17 March. Three athletes associated with Széchenyi István University may also take to the court as members of the team, while the preparation is supported by the institution’s lecturer, Dr Zoltán Alföldi, in the role of sports psychologist.
The most exciting scientific results today are increasingly emerging at the boundaries between disciplines, says Dr Petra Aczél, Head of the Centre for AI and Future Strategies at Széchenyi István University, who has recently been appointed Vice-President for Frontier Sciences of the HUN-REN Hungarian Research Network. According to the professor, research built on collaboration between different disciplines can play a key role in enabling Hungary to join the world’s leading innovators.
The Albert Kázmér Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences at Széchenyi István University recently presented its research and development activities at the most significant food industry event in Central-Eastern Europe. At the SIRHA 2026 Budapest international trade exhibition, the institution also showcased joint developments with the Cibus Hungaricus Foundation and LogBord Ltd., including an automated convenience store that will soon be installed on the Mosonmagyaróvár campus.

For Formula 1 fans, it comes as no surprise that Audi will appear on the grid for the first time at the Australian Grand Prix on 8 March. What may be less widely known, however, is that a number of Hungarian professionals - graduates and current students of Széchenyi István University - are working within the new team. Győr is therefore not only one of the key bases of the four-ringed brand, but also an outstanding location in terms of engineering talent development for the world’s most popular technical motorsport series.
The one-year, scholarship-based Diplomatic Training Programme of the Hungarian Diplomatic Academy was recently presented at Széchenyi István University to considerable interest. At the information session, students received first-hand insights into the path to a career in the foreign service, the application requirements, and the admissions process.
Each winter, the Deák Ferenc Faculty of Law and Political Sciences at Széchenyi István University organizes its one-week international professional programme, the Winter Seminar. This year, the programme focused on freedom of expression. Approximately twenty-five participating students had the opportunity to explore the topic in depth with the guidance of Polish, American, and Hungarian experts, addressing contemporary challenges of the digital age such as online manipulation and hate speech.
Sports education and research can no longer be separated from intelligent technologies, a data-driven approach and multidisciplinary thinking – building on this recognition, Széchenyi István University is launching new research projects and academic programmes. The institution is working in close cooperation with the State Secretariat for Sport at the Ministry of Defence and the National Institute for Sports Medicine.
Széchenyi István University organised a special cultural programme for its students and local residents to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year at the institution’s Győr Innovation Park. Participants received information about the language courses launching in September, learned about the planned activities of the recently inaugurated Confucius Institute, and had the opportunity to try calligraphy, stencil painting, using chopsticks and jianzi (a traditional shuttlecock game played with the feet).
A senior delegation from the International Fencing Federation (FIE) recently visited Széchenyi István University to learn about the institution’s sports science programmes, its dual career model and sports ecosystem, and to explore the possibilities of a strategic partnership. The shared objective of the parties is to create an internationally recognised educational pathway for fencers that simultaneously supports sporting careers and the attainment of higher education qualifications.
At Széchenyi István University’s Audi Hungaria Faculty of Engineering, 199 students have graduated; 225 have completed their studies at the Kautz Gyula Faculty of Business and Economics; and 208 at the Faculty of Informatics and Electrical Engineering. The University welcomed the new graduates on 19 and 20 February at the Győr Municipal University Hall.
At the joint ceremony of Széchenyi István University’s Apáczai Csere János Faculty of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences, Faculty of Health and Sport Sciences, and the Deák Ferenc Faculty of Law and Political Sciences, a total of 172 graduates received their diplomas. The inauguration of new Doctors of Law also took place during the event.
The University hosted the first stop of this year's MIT LinQ Catalyst Europe program, which focuses on medical technology innovations. The institution hosted the professional event for the third time, during which young researchers from six countries began working together with their experienced mentors.
A law student of Széchenyi István University was selected to join the Hungarian delegation participating in the simulation event of the Council of the European Union, ConSIMium. At the two-day programme held in Brussels for the fourth time this year, Flóra Emma Varga successfully represented Hungary’s interests in the role of national expert.
Széchenyi István University’s Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Transport Sciences held its winter graduation ceremony on 17 February. At the event, more than 180 graduates were welcomed as they embark on a new chapter of their lives with their degrees in hand.
The ZalaZone Automotive Proving Ground in Zalaegerszeg has by now become not only an important venue for industrial developments, but also for higher education programmes and applied research. In the immediate vicinity of the track operates Széchenyi István University’s Zalaegerszeg Innovation Park, serving as a bridge between education and industrial testing – as experienced by students of the English-taught Motorsport Engineering MSc programme first-hand during the past semester.
The Győr-Moson-Sopron County Chamber of Commerce and Industry established its Women Leaders’ Club in 2024 to provide an inspiring and supportive community for its members. The Club’s most recent meeting was held at Széchenyi István University, where participants were introduced to the institution’s strategy, internationalisation activities, new types of academic programmes, and developments taking place in the Győr Innovation Park.
More than one hundred and seventy students received their diplomas at the graduation ceremony of SZE’s Albert Kázmér Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences in Mosonmagyaróvár. In addition to welcoming the newly qualified agricultural professionals of Mosonmagyaróvár, one lecturer and several students were also recognised at the event.
