Since March, Paneer Sport Pub, located in the ETO Park shopping centre in Győr, has expanded its menu to include Indian cuisine. This selection, designed to create a sense of home for the University’s Indian students, also invites locals and visitors to embark on a culinary journey, allowing them to enjoy exotic flavours every day of the week.
A one-of-a-kind brain-imaging instrument in Hungary is advancing cutting-edge neuroscience research at Széchenyi István University. The NIRSport2 is the first brain-imaging device available in Hungary capable of displaying cortical activity in real time without spatial limitations.
The Technical University of Madrid recently hosted another session of the professional event series implemented with the support of Széchenyi István University, based on the LinQ Catalyst methodology developed by MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology). The workshop, focused on advancing healthcare innovation and fostering international partnerships, aimed to finalise medical technology project ideas developed within the programme.
Dr László Vasa has been appointed the head of the Doctoral School of Regional and Economic Sciences at Széchenyi István University as of 1 March. Based on his publication performance, Dr Vasa is considered one of the leading economists in Hungary and internationally. Since 2018, he has served as a research professor at the institution, and in 2021, he was appointed a full professor. Additionally, Dr Vasa is the leading researcher and senior advisor at the Hungarian Institute of Foreign Affairs, maintaining exceptionally close relationships with numerous overseas universities. His primary research areas include Central Asia, the Caucasus, foreign trade, international agricultural economics and the economics of natural resources.
As a project management intern at the Sauber Formula 1 team, Anna Szakonyi works on front suspension projects. Having earned a degree from WU Vienna, she is now studying Vehicle Engineering at Széchenyi István University. In addition to her internship, she values research and will represent the University at the National Scientific Students’ Conference in spring with her study on the societal benefits of the Formula Student competition series.
The communications module developed by the SZESAT College for Advanced Studies at Széchenyi István University orbited the Earth for one and a half years aboard the MRC-100 satellite, transmitting messages. With the recent successful conclusion of the mission, students from Győr have moved closer to their goal of launching their own satellite into space.
At Széchenyi István University, approximately 250 students received their diplomas during the weekday degree ceremonies, while nearly 700 graduates took part in the weekend graduation events. On Friday, graduates from the Deák Ferenc Faculty of Law and Political Sciences, along with the Audi Hungaria Faculty of Automotive Engineering, received their degrees, while graduates from the Kautz Gyula Faculty of Economics and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Informatics and Electrical Engineering were honoured on Saturday.
On 19 February, 250 students from the Faculty of Health and Sports Sciences, as well as the Apáczai Csere János Faculty of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences, graduated from Széchenyi István University. On 20 February, the Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Transport Engineering held its graduation ceremony at the Győr City University Hall. In total, 250 graduates were awarded their diplomas during these two events, including Dalma Sebestyén, a renowned Hungarian swimmer.
Széchenyi István University has launched a unique, English-taught Master’s programme in Motorsport Engineering, the only one of its kind in Central Europe. The inaugural cohort consists of eleven students who have recently commenced their studies. Among the faculty are several professionals with Formula 1 experience, as well as engineers from teams that have won world championships in other branches of motorsport.
Rodrigo Neto initially arrived in Győr drawn by the allure of the Audi brand, but he would have stayed on because of the close-knit community. As an Erasmus student who spent half a year at Széchenyi István University, the Portuguese student now highly recommends the institution to his peers. His attachment to the University is so strong that he has vowed to return for at least a week to visit the friends he made there.
Széchenyi István University and India's Integral University launched a two-year "International Economics and Business" double degree programme in September. The first cohort of the Master's programme includes 18 students from the South Asian country who, upon completion, will receive diplomas from both institutions. The students currently spending the semester in Győr can also enjoy familiar flavours from home, as from 1st March the University is expanding the menu of its Paneer restaurant, located in the ETO Park shopping centre, to include Indian dishes, which will be available to all.
Students from all technical universities across the country, and even beyond its borders, are invited to participate in the XVII. International Student Conference on Mechanical Engineering. With a history spanning nearly two decades, the event serves as a meeting place, a competition, and a platform for building industrial connections. Registration is open until 2nd March.
For the third time, Széchenyi István University held its training development conference to present recent innovations and inform its educators and partners about expected future directions. In addition to the advantages of the University ecosystem, the event covered competence assessments, project-based modules, and initiatives aimed at fostering student socialisation.
Les Orres, France, recently hosted the 2024/2025 Hungarian University and College National Championship (MEFOB) in alpine skiing and snowboarding. Students of Széchenyi István University, Katalin Anna Pataki and Miklós Bereczki, secured first place in the giant slalom skiing competition, earning two gold medals for their institution in Győr.
At the graduation ceremony of the Albert Kázmér Faculty of Mosonmagyaróvár of Széchenyi István University, graduates of programmes that were the first of their kind in Hungary were also honoured. These include the ESG – Environmental, Social, and Governance Specialist and the Precision Livestock and Management Engineering. Among other achievements, the University recently received the Award for Digitalisation of Agribusiness in recognition of its future-oriented programmes and pioneering research activities.
As part of the Rural Development Programme of the Ministry of Agriculture, Széchenyi István University is developing the infrastructure related to dairy and medicinal herb processing at the Campus of Albert Kázmér Faculty Mosonmagyaróvár. The nearly one-billion-forint project includes the creation of a smart garden for educational, demonstration, and research purposes, the expansion of the dairy processing facility’s technology, and the implementation of demonstration programmes. Diseased trees that need to be removed will be replaced with fruit trees, medicinal and spice plants, as well as ornamental and garden trees.
Széchenyi István University has announced the launch of eleven new English-taught academic programmes as part of the general admission procedure. From September, all nine faculties will offer programmes taught in English. Both Hungarian and international students are welcome to join these new full-time programmes.
This academic year, Széchenyi István University launched the Student Project Support Programme, in the framework of which around 250 students took part in extra-curricular practical projects during the first semester. Experience from 12 degree programmes indicates that students find the initiative valuable.

Széchenyi István University has expressed its gratitude to István Láng, Director General of the General Directorate of Water Management, and József Németh, Director of the North Transdanubian Water Directorate, by awarding them the Gold Level Certificate of Recognition from the Governing Board. The Neumann János Residential College of Engineering has reached a significant milestone, recently celebrating the tenth anniversary of its establishment. This professional community, founded as a student initiative, is renowned for organizing the highly successful P12 programming competition, which was hosted for years by Széchenyi István University. The organization's current long-term project aims to create a competition for students focused on artificial intelligence.
This year marked the establishment of the first professional motorsport simulator team within the e-sports division of Széchenyi István University (SZESE E-Sport). The team immediately positioned itself among the elite in the field, achieving an outstanding result at the prestigious Daytona 24-hour simulator race in the United States. Competing in the highly competitive LMP2 category, the Hungarian team secured an impressive fifth place.
Széchenyi István University has recently secured significant international research grants from the European Union’s Horizon Europe and Interreg Danube programmes. These grants support research in the fields of environmental protection, sustainability, water management and fisheries. The University is collaborating with esteemed institutions such as the University of Zagreb in Croatia, the University of Leeds in the UK, and the WWF’s Central and Eastern Europe Programme.
For the past three years, the Széll Kálmán Residential College of Economics and Data Science at Széchenyi István University has been fostering an academic forum that provides students with an inspiring environment, a valuable network of contacts, in-depth knowledge, and limitless opportunities. For the first time in its history, Széchenyi István University has been included in two World University Rankings by subject by Times Higher Education at the same time. The institution debuted in the Business and Economics category, where it is tied as the best in Hungary, while also strengthening its presence in the Engineering category.
The Apátúr Brewery, jointly owned by Széchenyi István University and the Benedictine Priory of Győr, is developing a product line of beers with flavours such as coffee, quince, Italian spices and grape. The unique branding for this line was created by the University’s graphic design students, and the design chosen by the jury may be featured on the bottles in the future.
On 15 January, Széchenyi István University reaffirmed its longstanding partnership with Drónkuckó, a company offering comprehensive remote sensing services. The leadership of the Albert Kázmér Faculty of Mosonmagyaróvár and the company representatives at the University’s Smart Farm training facility signed the cooperation agreement, which covers drone technology training, support for student research projects, and international grant applications.
At the University Awards Gala and Media Ball, the most prestigious social event in the region, accolades were presented to the outstanding educators, students, and alumni of Széchenyi István University, as well as the University Innovation Excellence Award. On January 18, the Győr City University Sports Hall was filled with ballgoers attending the event.
Széchenyi István University has achieved its best result ever in the Hungarian University-College National Championships (MEFOB) in the 2023-24 academic year. The institution, which is also one of the leaders in the sport, is preparing for great competitions and success again in 2025.
After the most successful season in its history, the Arrabona Racing Team will replace the internal combustion engine with an electric engine and will compete in the electric category, announced the Széchenyi István University’s Formula Student team. The switch is a huge challenge, but also a new perspective: students will have the opportunity to try out the latest technologies of e-mobility in practice, thus gaining even more competitive knowledge.
More than 5,000 people attended the Open Doors event of Széchenyi István University, where students were able to learn about the institution's quality academic programmes, its European-standard teaching and research infrastructure, its Halls of Residence and student life. Participants were informed in detail about the admission requirements for each degree programme, for which applications are open until 15 February.
The aim of the advisory board established at Széchenyi István University is to develop the field of production technology and to provide practical training tailored to the needs of companies. The initiative of the Audi Hungaria Faculty of Vehicle Engineering focuses on the renewal and continuous review of mechanical and automotive engineering courses.
Széchenyi István University is a key participant of the Educatio Exhibition in Budapest, as this year's EFOTT will be hosted by the Győr-based institution. The agreement was signed at the opening of the event, which will take place from 9-11 January. The University's spectacular and surprising booth was open until Saturday at Hungexpo's Pavilion D, and on 14 January at the open day on the Győr campus.

A self-developed board game, created by Donát Magda, a student of Széchenyi István University, has been named SZEsnake at the instigation of lecturer, Dr Katalin Kovács. The first version was designed for first-year students of Computer Science Engineering and Business Informatics programmes, but by changing the task cards, it can be adapted to any field of study.
