Zsuzsanna Naderi, State Secretary for Vocational Training and Adult Education, Dr Sándor Katz, State Secretary for Higher Education, and Péter Singer, Head of Department at the State Secretariat for Public Education, recently visited Széchenyi István University. The guests attended presentations on the University's achievements, strategic objectives and plans, and were introduced to the educational and research infrastructure of the Győr campus, its world-class student competition teams, and the University's innovation and health technology developments.
How can we manage everyday stress, what can we do to improve our sleep, and where can we turn if we are struggling with mental health difficulties? These were among the questions addressed during Széchenyi István University's Campus Wellbeing Week. Held for the third time this year, the event featured lectures, workshops and interactive activities highlighting the importance of physical and mental health.
For the first time, learners from Széchenyi István University's Confucius Institute have received recognition under the Chinese Ambassador Scholarship Programme, with five receiving Ambassador's Awards and another five receiving Encouragement Awards. Gong Tao, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Hungary, specifically praised the Győr-based Institute's participation in the initiative.
A recent conference organised by the Institute for Media Studies of the National Media and Infocommunications Authority and Széchenyi István University focused on the links between child protection and innovation, as well as the impact of technological, social and institutional changes on young people. The programme brought together representatives from health and sport sciences, psychology, education, sociology, law and media studies.
Győr, home to Széchenyi István University, was the destination of the first trip outside the capital by Finland’s newly appointed ambassador to Hungary. During his visit, Pekka Kaihilahti discussed Finnish-Hungarian relations and potential opportunities for cooperation in education and research with Professor Dr Eszter Lukács, the University’s Vice-President for International Affairs and Strategic Relations.
Dr Attila Szabó, Research Professor at SZE’s Faculty of Health and Sport Sciences, has won the joint grand prize in the over-35 scientific category of the Kopp–Skrabski Awards. A Doctor of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, he is an internationally recognised psychologist, and his research focuses, among other areas, on the factors influencing physical and mental health, behavioural addictions and the effects of physical exercise.
Dr Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, head of the Delhi state organisation of India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), visited Széchenyi István University. The President of the Asiatic Society of Mumbai and Vice-Chairman of Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini – an institute specialising in leadership training for governance – delivered the opening keynote address at an international conference hosted by the Kautz Gyula Faculty of Business and Economics, addressing global social crises as well as India–Hungary relations.
Széchenyi István University’s Apáczai Csere János Faculty of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences has expanded its research infrastructure with a new acoustic booth designed primarily to support research into speech development and speech therapy. The specialised environment allows speech to be recorded and analysed without background noise, and students at the Faculty can also take part in the research.
The International Directorate of Széchenyi István University organised an educational and community-building event for its international students to mark the International Day of the Girl Child. Entitled Dreams Without Borders, the event featured speakers from ten countries who shared their personal stories and experiences with the audience. The event aimed to raise awareness of the importance of girls’ access to education, equal opportunities and the possibilities that education can open up for young people.
The 7th National Student Research Forum (TDK Forum), jointly organised by the National Council of Students’ Research Societies (OTDT) and Széchenyi István University (SZE), took place in Győr on 15–16 October 2026, attracting more than 250 participants. The two-day event focused on the future of scientific talent development in Hungary.
The strategic partnership between Széchenyi István University and Waberer’s has reached another important milestone. With support from Waberer’s, which also carried out the refurbishment, a lecture room on the University’s Győr campus has been refurbished to serve as a new research and demonstration facility for the Waberer’s Transport and Logistics Competence Centre. Officially opened on 13 October, the Logistics Innovation Lab will support the shared professional objectives of the University and Waberer’s in addition to serving its regular teaching functions.
Széchenyi István University recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda in India to establish a Department of Ayurveda. The University continues to strengthen its ties with India while awaiting the arrival of the head of department. Most recently, Mahamandaleshwar Swami Sri Avatar Puri Ji, a senior representative of a Hindu monastic order and an expert in classical Indian philosophy and Sanskrit, delivered a lecture attended by visitors from across Hungary.
Twelve researchers from Széchenyi István University are featured in the 2026 Stanford ranking of the world’s top 2% of scientists, which assesses scientific performance and the international impact of publications. The result also reflects the success of the University’s research support system, which offers a wide range of opportunities, from publishing and conference participation to professional mentoring.
Lecturers from Széchenyi István University held a micro-credential course for teachers at Hungarian weekend schools in Germany. The three-day programme, held in Kastl-Mennersberg, Bavaria, focused on experiential learning, story and drama pedagogy in education, forest pedagogy, and the development of musical and partial abilities. A total of 35 participants received a micro-credential.
The Kautz Gyula Faculty of Business and Economics at Széchenyi István University hosted its international conference on business and economics for the third time. More than 300 experts from five continents travelled to Győr for the event, where artificial intelligence, sustainability, regional development, finance and geopolitical changes were among the topics explored in 27 thematic sessions and four professional workshops.
The relationship between law, politics and science, and its implications for the judicial application of law, were at the centre of a two-day international conference at Széchenyi István University. Sixty-eight participants from ten countries attended in person or online. The event, which grew out of several years of Polish-Hungarian cooperation, was held outside Poland for the first time.
The third Sustainable Mobility and Transportation Symposium (SMTS) will be held at Széchenyi István University on 8 October. Jointly organised by the University’s Audi Hungaria Faculty of Automotive Engineering and the Vehicle Industry Research Centre, with the support of Robert Bosch Kft., the scientific event provides a forum for the presentation and discussion of latest research results in the automotive industry and transportation
Martin Albrecht, a student at Lukács Sándor Automotive and Mechanical Engineering Technical School in Győr, won a silver medal in Automobile Technology at the WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 World Championship. The young competitor was mentored by Péter Őri, lecturer at Széchenyi István University’s Audi Hungaria Faculty of Engineering
On the International Day of Ayurveda, 23 September, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Széchenyi István University and the Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda (ITRA), an autonomous body under the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India. The signing ceremony took place at the Embassy of India in Budapest. This strategic partnership aims to establish a new Academic Chair in Ayurveda, which will be integrated into the University's Faculty of Health and Sports Sciences in Győr to advance educational, research, and scientific development initiatives in the field.
Around 350 primary and secondary school students put their language skills to the test at an event held in Győr on 28 September as part of the European Day of Languages. Széchenyi István University participated in the event as an exhibitor at the headquarters of the Győr-Moson-Sopron County Chamber of Commerce and Industry, while on 30 September, the University Library hosted further programmes connected to the international observance.
Promoting the Chinese language and culture is a core mission of the Confucius Institute at Széchenyi István University. A recent Mid-Autumn Festival celebration at the University’s Győr Innovation Park brought Chinese traditions closer to participants through traditional musical performances and a range of cultural and creative programmes.
Academic Day is SZE’s most significant celebration, organized annually by the University to mark the anniversary of the birth of its namesake, Count István Széchenyi, widely referred to as "the Greatest Hungarian". At this year’s event, prestigious honours were presented and new doctorates were conferred, with eight international students taking their solemn oaths.
With the start of the new academic year, eleven teaching and research staff members at SZE have been appointed as full professors. Széchenyi István University has achieved an outstanding result in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings published on 30 September. The University climbed 210 places in just one year, representing by far the greatest improvement among Hungarian institutions.
The entry of local producers into the market, the development of short supply chains, and the social and labour-market reintegration of homeless people are supported by joint Hungarian–Slovakian projects involving Széchenyi István University. Funded by the European Union’s Interreg Hungary–Slovakia Programme, these three initiatives offer practical solutions to the economic and social challenges faced by the border region.
Over the past two and a half years, 140 people have suffered fatal accidents while travelling by micromobility devices—mostly e-scooters—and injury cases have become a daily occurrence. These figures were highlighted at the fourth national Transport Safety Conference organized by SZE and several professional organizations.
From 1 October 2026, Post Office No. 7, located on the Győr campus of SZE, will operate under revised opening hours, serving University staff and students, as well as local residents and workers.
Students at SZE have launched a design competition for the interior refurbishment of the Deák Ferenc Faculty of Law and Political Sciences. Teams comprising students of architecture, architectural design and law, as well as those from related disciplines, have the opportunity to submit their proposals for the redesign of the main hall, teaching and community spaces by the end of November. The best projects will compete for a total prize fund of three million forints.
SZE is to replace four lifts at its academic building in Győr with new ones. The work will be carried out in two phases to ensure at least some lifts remain operational at all times. According to the plans, work is scheduled to begin in January 2027, with all four new lifts expected to be fully operational by the start of the 2027/28 academic year.
In 2024, Pető Pont in Győr began operating at the MedTech Health Technology Campus of SZE becoming the first development centre of its kind outside Budapest. The centre, which specialises in conductive Education, is now continuing its activities under a new structure: Uni-Medicampus Kft., owned by SZE, is taking over management from the András Pető Faculty of Semmelweis University. The reorganisation was celebrated with the unveiling of a new plaque a few days ago.
The 4th Uni Győr Rally will take place on 11–12 September in strategic partnership with Széchenyi István University. A total of 83 crews have registered for the two-day event, with fierce competition expected across several championship categories. Details of the event were announced on 8 September at a press conference held at Széchenyi István University’s Győr Innovation Park.
Alongside diplomacy, education, science, culture and the arts also play a crucial role in building peace – this was the central theme of the international conference took place at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences on 7 September. At the event, held in connection with the UN’s International Day of Peace on 21 September, Széchenyi István University was represented by Professor Eszter Lukács, the university’s Vice-President for International Affairs and Strategic Relations and a member of the Executive Board of the United Nations Association of Hungary. International students from the university also took part in the forum.
In the first few days of September, first-year students arrived at Széchenyi István University to prepare for the start of the semester during Freshers’ Week. In addition to casual fun and community-building, the goal of this traditional event is to share vital information with the help of the Students’ Union, lecturers and upper-year students.
The education counsellor and second secretary of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Hungary recently visited Széchenyi István University to discuss further opportunities for cooperation building on the existing partnership. In addition to the educational and cultural activities of the Confucius Institute at the Győr-based institution, the meeting also covered research and development opportunities, student and staff exchange programmes, and building the Chinese community in the region.
SZE’s refurbished Cuha utca Hall of Residence will provide state-of-the-art accommodation for more than 300 students from the start of the new academic year. The University modernised the building, which previously served as a workers’ hostel in Győr, using its own funds, and it was unveiled during a press tour on 1st September.
The collaboration established by SZE’s Albert Kázmér Faculty in Mosonmagyaróvár, and the University’s spin-off company, Uni Inno Plc with Gallus Ltd and Taravis Ltd, both belonging to the Gallus Group, supports students’ professional development and industry experience, as well as the implementation of joint research, development and innovation projects.
The SZE team concluded the 16th European Universities Rowing Championships with one silver and one bronze medal, as well as a number of strong finishes in the finals. Eszter Fehérvári finished second in the women’s single sculls, while Márk Barabás and Zsombor Balog won the bronze medal in the men’s lightweight pairs.
Ambassador Katalin Bogyay, former Permanent Representative of Hungary to the United Nations and UNESCO and President of the United Nations Association of Hungary and the Hungarian National Commission for UNESCO, has been elected President of the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) at the organisation’s anniversary World Congress and 44th Plenary Assembly in Geneva. The distinguished diplomat has close ties with Széchenyi István University, which awarded her an honorary doctorate in 2025 in recognition of her outstanding career and achievements.
